Direct flights between China and India, suspended for more than four years, may soon resume.
The two countries’ foreign ministers recently discussed the restoration of direct air services and visa facilitation during a meeting in Rio de Janeiro.
This move comes after the pandemic and bilateral tensions disrupted previously operating routes, such as Air India’s routes to Guangzhou and Shanghai flights, and IndiGo’s Chengdu service.
Travelers currently face longer transit times via Hong Kong, Dubai or Singapore.
If the direct flights resume, it will mark a significant milestone in Sino-Indian relations, especially as 2025 approaches—the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
